Individual and Couples Counselling
Leonie Roffe (she/her) - Individual and Couples Counsellor
I am an LGBTQ+ affirmative and person-centred counsellor offering therapy for individuals and couples. I work in-person as well as remotely, via Zoom or telephone. I am hugely passionate about helping my clients find self-acceptance and strength from within. Whatever the reason you have chosen to seek counselling, I provide a safe, gentle and compassionate space where you can be completely yourself. My role is to facilitate your growth in understanding of your experiences, emotions and thinking patterns, as well as supporting you in exploring the options you have to begin to move forward with your life.
My experience:
I have worked with a number of organisations and charities to provide mental health support to a wide range of our local communities. This has included offering counselling in schools, short term therapy for survivors of sexual assault, and supporting individuals who identify as part of the LGBTQ+ community in Brighton.
Some of the other issues I have some experience in working with include:
· low self-esteem
· loss of identity
· suicidal ideation
· bereavement
· bereavement by suicide
· sexual abuse & rape
· depression
· work/ study related stress
· anxiety
· chronic illness
· life transitions
· childhood trauma
· ASD/ ADHD & living in a neurotypical society
· parenthood
· sexual issues
· self-harm
· intrusive thoughts
· relationships
About my practice:
I am an LGBTQ+ affirmative and queer identifying practitioner, which means that I provide a safe, accepting space for clients of all genders and sexual orientations. I follow the Gender, Sexuality and Relationship Diversity (GSRD) model. This is a broader framework inclusive of anyone who doesn't fit the societal norm, for example, individuals who are polyamorous or practice kink.
My approach is informed by feminist theory. I acknowledge that we are different in gender, race, class, as well as many other intersections. I understand that this means we are also sometimes treated differently to each other, and often treated unfairly. I may address the impact that oppression or experiences of discrimination can have on mental health if this feels relevant to the counselling work.
This is my area of specialism, however I do not only work with LGBTQ+ clients or around issues of diversity - I welcome clients of all identities and backgrounds.
Fees:
I offer a 30 minute introductory appointment which is free of charge. After this, each 50 minute session for both inviduals and couples is £50 which can be paid by cash, card or bank transfer.
Counselling sessions for university students or counselling students are offered at a reduced rate of £40.
